More Than Two Decades of Geothermal Drilling Experience

SINCE 2003, GRUPO IPS HAS APPLIED ITS DRILLING AND ENGINEERING CAPABILITIES TO CHALLENGING GEOTHERMAL ENVIRONMENTS ACROSS LATIN AMERICA.

For more than two decades, Grupo IPS has participated in geothermal drilling projects across Latin America, building experience in some of the demanding conditions associated with high-temperature volcanic fields.

Geothermal wells present a distinctive combination of technical challenges: high temperatures, hard and abrasive formations, severe lost circulation and demanding well trajectories.

Addressing these conditions requires technologies proven in complex drilling environments and adapted specifically for geothermal applications. Grupo IPS capabilities include air and aerated drilling, HP/HT directional drilling with Fortix™ downhole motors, MWD and LWD technologies rated to 175 °C, specialized drilling fluids for steep thermal gradients, and high-temperature fishing and milling solutions.

Our experience in oil & gas provides a strong engineering foundation, while more than two decades of geothermal field experience allow those technologies and practices to be adapted to the specific requirements of geothermal wells.

Today, our Energy Resources capabilities extend beyond drilling to support a broader portion of the geothermal project lifecycle, from resource assessment and well planning to drilling, intervention and well testing.

As geothermal development expands into increasingly complex environments, Grupo IPS continues to combine field experience, engineering and specialized technology to help turn subsurface resources into viable energy projects.
